Enhance your mobile gaming experience with the cloud

Your mobile gaming forecast is looking cloudy with a chance of fun.

Play all your favorite games anytime you want on nearly any device, and never lose track of all the progress you’ve made. Sound impossible? Anyone who thinks this could happen must have his head in the cloud. Cloud computing, that is.

What is cloud gaming?

Mobile gamers have likely already been playing in the cloud without even realizing it. Many mobile games, such as Gameloft’s Despicable Me: Minion Rush or Injustice: Gods Among Us from Warner Bros., periodically save the player’s progress to the cloud and sync the information later. This means that if you’ve switched from playing on your Samsung Galaxy Tab E tablet to your Samsung Galaxy S7 you don’t have to worry about losing any of the progress or purchases you’ve made in the games.

The future of cloud gaming

Mobile gaming is set to take another huge leap, thanks to cloud computing and companies including OnLive and Sony. With OnLive’s new CloudLift, gamers can purchase digital copies of some of their favorite games (or use the copies they already own via Steam) for play on their home computers. CloudLift-compatible games can also be taken on the road, with gameplay streamed directly to an Android™ smartphone or tablet. Using CloudLift together with Verizon’s super-fast 4G LTE network, gamers can start up a game of Batman: Arkham Origins at home on their desktop, then keep the action going on their Ellipsis® 10 tablet.

A couple of years ago, Sony bought OnLive competitor Gaikai, looking to add cloud gaming to its console lineup. The end result is Sony’s upcoming PlayStation™ Now service. The Gaikai-based service will give gamers instant access to the massive library of games released over the company’s console history. Sony fans will have access to all of their favorite games from the PlayStation® 1, 2 and 3 and play them on the PlayStation 4, PS Vita or their favorite mobile device and a DualShock® 3 controller. Thanks to the processing power of the cloud, the games are just as impressive as they are on the home consoles, with progress carrying over seamlessly between the two.

Gaming accessories enhance your experience

Sure, playing games on the large screen of your Galaxy S 6 is an immersive experience, but there are also complementary accessories that take your gaming to the next level. The Sony DualShock® 4 Wireless Controller mimic the controllers you’ve come to know, and you’ll enjoy the feel of console play in your hand. Just pop in a compatible smartphone and climb your way to the top of the leaderboards.

The future of mobile gaming is looking cloudy, but that’s not a bad thing. Thanks to the power of cloud computing, backed by Verizon’s 4G LTE network, your favorite mobile device is on track to be the only gaming system you’ll ever need.
