Connection with a twist: The Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic smartwatches

The Frontier and Classic smartwatches have style and functionality to spare.

Samsung Gear S3s are 2 perfect

Smartwatch shoppers want a smooth, attractive interface, speedy performance, a long-lasting battery, great design and an array of useful and fun apps. Two smartwatches that meet the bill are the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic, from Samsung.

Both offer similar features, but take different approaches to delivering everything that users could possibly want in a smartwatch.

Here are 5 key features of the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic:

1. Eye-catching design: Both models resemble traditional watches with a round bezel. But whereas the Classic has a luxurious, sophisticated feel, the Frontier is all about looking rugged and ready for adventure. "I usually prefer classic designs akin to the Classic S3, but the Frontier has more character,” notes Digital Trends. “It looks more like a regular wristwatch.”

TalkAndroid.com also praises devices’ distinct looks. “Right off the bat, you will notice how simple and beautiful the design of the Samsung Gear S3 Classic is,” the editors write. “During my time with the smartwatch, it was not uncommon to receive lots of glances and even a few 'Which watch is that?’ questions from strangers. If I could only choose one word to describe the screen, it would be ‘gorgeous.’”

2. Latest-gen technology: There's no significant difference between the models on the hardware front. Both the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic are 4G LTE-enabled, so you can stay connected even when your phone isn’t nearby. Users can get texts, take calls, download apps and receive alerts.

Both timepieces offer “all the features you'd expect from a smartwatch, including GPS, a heart rate monitor, water resistance, NFC activity tracking, an altimeter and ... a great screen and long-lasting battery,” writes TechRadar.

4. Supreme functionality: Both smartwatches can be paired with a Samsung phone, most Android phones and even some Apple iPhones. Smart features include built-in GPS, a speaker to make calls, touchscreen utility, a variety of Samsung and third-party watchbands, an always-on display and certified water resistance for up to 30 minutes.

“Given the massive amount of technology inside and capability of the Gear S3, I am in awe of what Samsung has been able to include in such a small package,” ZDNet says in its review. “It fits my wrist well and I barely even notice it is mounted on my wrist 24 hours a day.”

5. Do the bezel twist: A key strength of the original Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch was its rotating bezel — a multifunction feature that allowed users to respond to calls, turn up the volume, read messages or find an app. The twistable bezel makes a return appearance in both the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic.

“The rotating bezel was Samsung's solution to making smartwatch interactions more fluid, saving you from continually swiping through screens and trying to find what you were looking for,” writes Wareable.com. “We were big fans when we first tested the Gear S2, and we're grateful it's back on the Gear S3."

Digital Trends also considers the bezel a real breakthrough. “It’s one of the best features of the watch, because you can quickly scroll through anything on the interface,” the editors write. “[And it] makes a satisfying sound when you rotate it, similar to what you’d hear on a combination lock with a dial.”

And last but not least, both smartwatches also tell perfect time.
