Thinking about updating to an incredible new 4G LTE phone or tablet? Now is the perfect time . . . just as our 4G LTE network has been ranked No. 1 in PC World’s 100 Best Products of 2011.

And that’s not all. Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network has also been named the “Fastest 4G Network Yet” by Popular Science magazine in the gadgets category of the 2011 Best of What’s New Awards.

David Small, chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless, noted, “Each of these awards is a true honor and speaks to the sustainable investment we’ve made in our 4G LTE network. Popular Science and PC World are validating our strategy of building and selling services on an actual 4G LTE network over the year, rather than simply talking about what we may offer down the road.”

Tim Moynihan, senior editor of PC World, said, “Verizon's LTE service smoked the competition in our 4G speed tests, with download times almost three times as fast as most competitors’."

"We held an all-editorial team vote, and LTE was the leading vote-getter. The reason behind it is that it adds value to a lot of devices – phones, tablets, and USB modems for laptops – it's faster and available in more cities than competing services, and LTE is likely to be the future of wireless mobility for multimedia-heavy Web access,” Moynihan said.

Mark Jannot, editor-in-chief of Popular Science, said “For 24 years, Popular Science has honored the innovations that surprise and amaze us – those that make a positive impact on our world today and challenge our views of what’s possible in the future. The Best of What’s New Award is the magazine’s top honor, and the 100 winners – chosen from among thousands of entrants – represent the highest level of achievement in their fields.”

In years past, the award has been given to revolutionary products and technologies such as Apple’s App store in 2008, the Android OS in 2009 and a group of apps (known as Apps of the Year) in 2010, which included the Siri Personal Assistant, now synonymous with the iPhone 4S.

We’re now more motivated than ever to continue pushing the boundaries with our 4G LTE network and rapidly deploying it to customers across the country. To coincide with these wins, we’re launching new and expansion markets today, Nov. 17. With the 14 new markets and four expansions, our 4G LTE network is available in 179 markets across the country, covering more than 186 million Americans.

Come December, we’ll have additional 4G LTE markets to announce as we celebrate the one-year anniversary of its launch on Dec. 5.

It’s looking like it will be a great end to the 1st year of Verizon Wireless 4G LTE. I’m looking forward to sharing details of what’s to come in 2012.
