The Ericsson Converged Workspace (ECW) is certified for use on the Verizon 4G LTE network and is now available from Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), the companies announced today.

The ECW functions as an “office in a box” for enterprise and small/medium business customers. It provides the ability to rapidly deploy voice and data services in work locations that are temporary, hard to reach, need to have a standardized connection or updated infrastructure.

With the Ericsson Converged Workspace, a small business or branch office has immediate access to simultaneous voice calling services over the mobile network or VoIP, full multi-user Internet access, LAN, Wi-Fi and routing services and full PBX functionality.

“This innovative blend of advanced features and interfaces enhances business productivity and reduces costs,” said Angel Ruiz, head of Ericsson North American operations. “The ECW will be a significant technological leap forward for branch offices or small businesses, which make up more than 90 percent of all businesses in the United States.”

The ECW can be used when businesses want to be entirely wireless or provide an automatic 4G LTE backup solution when bundled with Ethernet-based internet service. The ECW can also be configured to integrate traditional POTS lines and WAN access via DSL or cable, providing even more flexibility to operators and their small business customers.

Adding 4G LTE expands the opportunity to address the needs of millions of additional small businesses, branch offices or home workers with one network without traditional limitations of the last mile connection.

The ECW is the result of collaboration begun as part of Verizon’s Innovation Program, of which Ericsson is a founding participant.

“The ECW is one of many innovative solutions Verizon and Ericsson have worked on together at the our LTE Innovation Center, and now that it is certified to work on our 4G LTE network, customers will have the opportunity to experience the solution,” said Jim Wales, executive director, Innovation Program at Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless and Ericsson are strategic partners for the 4G LTE ecosystem. Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network is currently available in 230 markets covering two-thirds of the population in the United States.
