It’s award season for the entertainment industry, honoring the best in film and television. While the excitement and glamour of the red carpet are captivating on TV, viewers can create a more interactive experience by adding a second screen to the mix and joining the conversation on Facebook, Twitter and other social channels.
One in three Twitter users this past June tweeted about a TV show they were watching, according to a recent report by Nielsen. During the upcoming TV and film award shows, viewers can share their thoughts about wins and losses, as well as fashion and accessories by using Twitter or Facebook on their smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Users can also take advantage of the Viggle app, which identifies the show they’re watching and provides access to conversations about the show on social networks. The app also lets users earn points by checking into their favorite shows. Accumulated points can be redeemed for rewards, such as gift cards.
Nielsen also found that 35 percent of people who used tablets while watching TV searched for information online about the program they were watching. For this year’s shows, several networks, such as NBC and E!, will have their own apps that viewers can use to gain access to behind-the-scenes action, photo galleries and award updates. Viewers can also watch full trailers and find more information about the movies, TV shows and actors on screen with the IMDB app.
This year take full advantage of the second screen while watching to add your thoughts about who won and who should have won.
