King of Prussia, PA — Bell Atlantic Mobile, one of the nation's premier wireless carriers and TruePosition, Inc., a leading provider of wireless location technology and commercial services, today announced they have successfully completed field trials of CDMA location technology.

The field trial, conducted over series 2 TruePosition Wireless Location Technology, involved 18 cell sites and covered more than 120 square-miles surrounding King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Trial results indicated the technology could pinpoint the location of a wireless caller within 80 meters, or less than a football field.

"We were very pleased with the performance of TruePosition's system in this field trial," said Ted Hoffman, vice president of Technology Development for Bell Atlantic Mobile. "The next step is to test the system's operation in more challenging radio propagation environments such as Manhattan."

Bell Atlantic Mobile plans to trial the system's performance in New York City's urban downtown area and a full-scale market trial throughout its Philadelphia region later this year.

"The results of the field trial were delivered ahead of schedule and met expectations as Bell Atlantic Mobile works to meet the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC's) E9-1-1 mandate," said Kent Sander, president of TruePosition, Inc. "Our system is compliant with the mandate and enables wireless carriers to pass on specific location information to Public Service Access Points (PSAPs) for dispatching emergency response teams such as police, fire and rescue."
