SCHAUMBURG, IL — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless communications provider, today announced that it has signed an extensive marketing agreement with Northern Illinois University's (NIU) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The association with NIU is the first on-going university-related athletic sponsorship for Verizon Wireless in the state.

The two-year agreement designates Verizon Wireless as "the official wireless provider for NIU" and provides the company on-site and broadcast advertising and promotional rights for numerous Northern Illinois University athletic facilities and events. Included are football games at Huskie Stadium, men's and women's basketball games at Evans Field House and other major events at the Anderson Hall Aquatic Center and Convocation Center.

"We are extremely pleased to broaden and deepen our participation with this university. The popularity of our products has given us a visible presence on the Northern Illinois campus. Now this relationship will further our presence there," said Greg Klimek, president-Chicago Region for Verizon Wireless.

Klimek added that the association will extend the Verizon Wireless message throughout the year across numerous campus events. It will also lead to the company increasing its activity with the student body and alumni through special offers, ticket give-aways and other promotional events.

Prominent Verizon Wireless signage at Huskie Stadium will include the East Stadium entrance, as well as the main scoreboard and a field icon. At Evans Field House, Anderson Aquatic Center and Convocation Center, the Verizon Wireless logo and messages will appear on the main scoreboard, head scorers table and press row tables.

Through the association with NIU, Verizon Wireless will also participate in seasonal promotional events and receive identification as a Huskie Team Partner on all events broadcast on the Huskie Sports Radio Network.

The association with Northern Illinois University is the first on-going university-related athletic sponsorship for Verizon Wireless in the state.

Northern Illinois University is a comprehensive teaching and research institution with a student enrollment of more than over 23,000 students. In addition to its main campus in the City of DeKalb, the University also operates regional sites in Rockford, Hoffman Estates, Oregon and Naperville, Ill. A NCAA Division I school, the NIU Huskies compete in the Mid-American Conference.
