SPOKANE, WA — This weekend, Verizon Wireless is celebrating the grand opening of its newest Communications Store, located at 6227 N. Division Street, with a $2,500 donation to the Support, Care, and Networking Center of Spokane County (SCAN).

SCAN's mission is to strengthen family relationships and prevent child abuse, domestic violence and neglect. The organization served nearly 600 families last year; 45% involved domestic violence issues.

"The grant from Verizon Wireless couldn't have been timed better as we have experienced a 40% increase in the number of families we serve," said Connie McCleary, director for SCAN. "The money will allow us to continue to help more people in need."

"Verizon Wireless has a long history of supporting domestic violence initiatives," said Kelley DeLaney, regional president for Verizon Wireless in Washington. "We want to make a difference in the local community, and by helping the Support, Care and Networking Center, we hope to play a part in increasing the awareness and prevention of domestic violence."

Grand opening festivities at the store include a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Spokane Chamber of Commerce on Friday, January 12 at 12:30 p.m. Randy Tee, manager of the new Verizon Wireless store in Spokane, will present the $2,500 donation to a representative from SCAN during the event.

Radio station KZZU FM will broadcast live at the store on Friday, January 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m and KXLY-FM will broadcast live on Saturday, January 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free food and giveaways will be available throughout the weekend. Customers will receive a special promotional offer of 250 additional minutes on their first month of service when signing up for any DigitalChoice plan from January 12-14.

The new Verizon Wireless Communications Store features a variety of products and services, including the company's popular all-inclusive SingleRateSM service and a premier line of digital wireless phones, data products and accessories. The staff of trained professionals can assist individuals in selecting equipment, making decisions on calling plans or setting up Mobile Web, Verizon Wireless' internet access service.

"Our customer base is expanding in the Spokane area," said DeLaney. "Our new location will give customers more convenient access to our products and service and allow us to provide even better customer service."

The store is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
