SIOUX CITY, IA — Verizon Wireless today announced the launch of Mobile MessengerSM, the company's two-way text messaging service, and Mobile WebSM, which provides wireless access to the Internet, in the Sioux City area. Both services are available with feature-ready digital handsets on Verizon Wireless' digital network.
Mobile Messenger two-way text messaging allows users to stay in touch quietly and easily by swapping messages of up to 160 characters. Messages can be sent from any Internet e-mail address, from a Verizon Wireless two-way messaging-capable handset or from www.vtext.com— a new, simple-to-use short text messaging Web site that makes it a snap to send text messages to individuals and groups and lets customers set up useful information alerts.
When sending a message to a wireless phone, vtext.com allows the sender to confirm delivery that the message was received by the phone and provides a date and time stamp. Additionally, 2-way messaging capable phones can reply back to the vtext.com Web site creating an interactive chat session. Customers can also create their own easy-to-remember 2-way text messaging wireless nickname—'YourNickname'@vtext.com
Customers in Sioux City can also sign up for Verizon Wireless' Mobile Web wireless access to the Internet. Verizon Wireless has over 50 content providers which can be accessed directly from a wireless handset to check on e-mail, stocks, news, weather and horoscopes, or for listings of the nearest ATM, movie theater or restaurant. Users can also make purchases directly through their wireless handset.
"Swapping messages from wireless handsets is catching on across the country as users get accustomed to the convenience, flexibility and enjoyment two-way text messaging offers," said Rick Rogers, Verizon Wireless retail store manager in Sioux City. "In addition, Mobile Web service allows for functional on-the-go uses of internet services, such as driving directions to a specific address."
There is no need to subscribe to Mobile Messenger service, since any Verizon Wireless customer with a two-way text messaging capable phone can just "pay as they go" for $0.02 to receive and $0.10 to send messages. Bundled packages are available for $2.99 per month for 100 messages, $3.99 per month for 200 messages and $7.99 per month for 600 messages sent or received.
Mobile Web service includes both access to the Internet and two-way text messaging. New users who sign up for $6.95 per month (100 text messages) receive two-months free while packages of $8.95 (200 text messages) and $12.95 (600 text messages) are also available.
