PEORIA, IL — Verizon Wireless is recognizing the grand opening of its newest communications store, located at 4813 North Rockwood Road, with a $2,500 donation to The Center for Prevention of Abuse.

The mission of The Center is to empower people to eliminate interpersonal abuse and violence, to provide services and support victims of elder and child abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence, and to educate the public concerning these matters. Last year, the organization served more than 2,980 clients involved in domestic violence-related issues.

"In addition to the $2,500 contribution, Verizon Wireless recently partnered with our agency, providing 50 phones as part of the Call to Protect program," said Martha Herm, Executive Director of The Center for Prevention of Abuse. "Verizon Wireless support helps to provide our clients with the security and mobility they need to regain peace of mind and independence."

"Verizon Wireless has a long history of supporting domestic violence initiatives," said Lisa Chrzaszcz, regional president of Verizon Wireless. "We want to make a difference in the Peoria area, and by helping The Center for Prevention of Abuse, we hope to play a part in increasing the awareness and prevention of domestic violence."

Grand opening festivities at the store include a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Peoria Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, January 25 at 4 p.m. Scott Sylvester, manager of the new Verizon Wireless Peoria store, will present the $2,500 donation to Herm during the event.

Radio station WXCL FM will broadcast live at the store on Thursday, January 25 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, January 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Verizon Wireless giveaways will be available throughout the weekend and customers will receive a special promotional offer of 1,300 minutes (300 anytime minutes per month/1,000 night and weekend minutes per month) with included long distance for just a $25 monthly access for the first six months. In addition, customers will receive a free digital phone with free activation (after $50 mail-in rebate) with a new two-year service agreement.

The new Verizon Wireless communications store features a variety of products and services, including a premier line of wireless phones and accessories. Verizon Wireless is also offering a 50% discount on accessories (over $20) through the end of January. The staff of trained professionals can assist individuals in selecting equipment and making decisions on calling plans.

"Our customer base is expanding in the Central Illinois area," said Chrzaszcz. "Our new location will give customers more convenient access to our products and services and allow us to provide even better customer service."

The store is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
