FARGO, ND — Verizon Wireless, known for its corporate leadership in the fight to end domestic violence, announced the donation of a grant for $1,000 as well as three wireless phones and service for a year to the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center of Fargo-Moorhead.

The Rape and Abuse Crisis Center is a non-profit organization based in Fargo, North Dakota, that provides free counseling services, advocacy, crisis intervention, legal advocacy and education to primary and secondary victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child sexual abuse. The center is available 24 hours a day and served 2,912 men, women and children in 2000.

"Many times victims have to leave their homes in the middle of the night with no place to go," said Angela Fowler of the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center. "Verizon Wireless' donation will assist us in helping individuals call for the help they need as well as provide services through the center."

Verizon Wireless has a long history of supporting domestic violence initiatives. "Throughout the nation, Verizon Wireless puts wireless phones in the hands of victims to ensure their safety and assist them on the road to recovery," said Dana Johnson, Direct Sales Manager for North and South Dakota. "We want to make a difference in the local community, and by supporting the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center, we hope to play a part in increasing the awareness and prevention of domestic violence."
