BEDMINSTER, N.J. — Now more than ever skiers and snowboarders head for snow country and can still be in contact with the office or family. Thanks to a $4 billion national investment in 2000 to improve service in its extensive wireless network, Verizon Wireless expanded its digital service to popular mountain communities and ski resorts, including:
- Colorado: Aspen, Vail, Crested Butte, Telluride, Durango Mountain (formerly Purgatory),
Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge and
Beaver Creek - Wyoming: Jackson Hole
- Utah: Deer Valley, Park City
- Idaho: Sun Valley
As a result, Verizon Wireless is now providing slope-side travelers access to superior voice quality and call clarity on its award winning digital network - making conditions ideal for winter enthusiasts this season.
"The expansion of our coast-to-coast digital network throughout the mountain regions makes it possible for snowbound vacationers to use their wireless phones," said Lowell McAdam, executive vice president and COO for Verizon Wireless. "Skiers can maximize their time on the slopes by using their wireless phone to check in with their families, get in touch with friends in a neighboring condo, receive the latest snow report or make reservations at a nearby restaurant whether they're in the lodge or on a lift."
Verizon Wireless offers some tips to help skiers and snowboarders maintain their wireless phone functionality in snow country:
- Be sure to charge your phone frequently. Cold temperatures can shorten the phone's battery life.
- Handle your handset with care. The glass covering the display can become brittle when exposed to cold temperatures for long periods of time.
- Avoid leaving your handset in the car overnight. Prolonged exposure to the cold may affect the phone's display screen.
- Check your phone's signal strength in a non-emergency situation. Ski area and back bowl coverage may vary depending on topography and altitudes.
- When bringing your wireless phone onto the slopes, carry it in an inside jacket pocket, keeping it close to your body for warmth.
- If you hold a yard sale, pick up your phone first to keep snow from melting into the keypad.
