UNIONTOWN, PA — Area residents are invited to join Verizon Wireless employees in conducting a Diaper Driver to help the "littlest victims of domestic violence," the infants and toddlers who, with their mothers, seek assistance at local shelters.

The Fayette County Council for Family Abuse and Human Intervention will receive the gifts collected during Verizon Wireless' fourth annual Diaper Drive.

"Each year our employees have given hundreds of diapers and other infant and toddler toiletry items to assist the littlest victims of domestic violence," said Roger Tang, regional president for Verizon Wireless for Pennsylvania/West Virginia/Ohio. "We select a shelter in an area where we have a store and provide the supplies to that group. Since we recently opened a new store in the Uniontown Mall, we chose the Fayette County Council for Family Abuse to receive the gifts this year."

Gloria Mickens, executive director of Fayette County Council for Family Abuse and Human Intervention, Inc., said the items meet the very basic needs of the infants and children who they assist.

"Investing in a child today helps make a healthier adult tomorrow," Mickens said.

Uniontown Communications Store manager Jeffrey Dovedot felt local residents would also like to support such an effort so the Diaper Drive will be held in the store from April 5 through April 22. He said area shoppers can donate diapers or other toiletry items by placing them in the crib located in the store lobby.

Donations for the Diaper Drive can be dropped off at the Uniontown Mall Verizon Wireless Communications Store (located across from Bon Ton) during regular store hours Monday through Saturday,10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The gifts will be presented to the shelter at a ceremony at the store on Monday, April 23, at 10 a.m.
