BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, has upgraded its Web site, www.verizonwireless.com, to help make the online shopping experience virtually hassle-free. The re-designed site is a valuable resource that should be "book-marked" by anyone who owns a wireless phone or is in the market for a new one. It is also a great place to pick an accessory for many phone models.

At its Online Store, the company has taken the guesswork out of online shopping, with a new step-by-step Guide to Customize Your Verizon Wireless Service. The interactive system walks customers through the service options to help them make the smartest decisions for their wireless communication needs. Customers can:

1) Review and select the price plan that best suits their needs

2) Browse through a gallery of wireless handsets

3) Select from an array of calling features - such as call waiting and Caller ID - to enhance their wireless service

4) Purchase the latest phone accessories

5) Preview their entire package - price plan, phone, features and accessories - before they click to the "checkout."

"Consumers in greater numbers are turning to the Web as their source for information about wireless products and services, both for its convenience and 'twenty four by seven' access," said Mark G. Lawson, director E-business, Verizon Wireless. "After we upgraded our Web site to make it more user-friendly, we've seen the daily online sales run rate more than double, while page hits to the site nearly tripled."

New customers signing up through the company's Online Store receive a $25 service credit on their first month's bill* plus free shipping and handling for their new wireless handset for a limited time. The offer is only available through the company's online sales channel through May 18, 2001.

Highlights of the Verizon Wireless Web site re-design include:

  • Customer Service - offers customers information about their account, frequently asked questions and 28 phone user guides.

  • Plans and Pricing - compares Verizon Wireless' calling plans by plan name, plan description, monthly access charge, monthly minutes included, per-minute overage charge, long distance charges and roaming charges. Here consumers can also find Popular Packages - which matches up a great phone with a popular plan - making it even easier for customers to shop for wireless.

  • Equipment page - boasts three-dimensional flash phone demos, showing the phone from all angles. The flash demo also plays ringer audio samples.

  • Price Plans Map - gives consumers the option to view pricing plan maps for their home calling area.

  • Calling Features - offers in-depth information on the calling features offered by Verizon Wireless' plans.

  • Internet and Data - added to give customers an array of Verizon Wireless options and information about data services, such as Mobile Web™ and Mobile MessengerSM.

  • Text Messaging page - allows visitors to send a text message from their personal computer to any Verizon Wireless customer using a digital handset.
