PUEBLO, CO — In its continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for local residents, Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, today announced that it has expanded its digital network to include Walsenberg and Colorado City. This upgrade improves Verizon Wireless' coverage and enhances call quality for customers using their wireless phones along Interstate 25 south of Pueblo through Walsenberg and into Colorado City and the town of Rye. The availability of digital service offers customers a long list of benefits, including superior voice quality, longer battery life due to the lower amount of power required by digital phones and the ability to use advanced wireless services such as Internet access and text messaging.

"The ultimate factor in the quality of wireless service - and the customer's satisfaction - is the network that carries the call, and the recent enhancement to the Pueblo network is another example of Verizon Wireless' commitment to delivering superior network quality in all of our markets," said Marni Walden, regional president for Verizon Wireless. "We invested more than $40 million in our wireless network in Colorado last year, and plan to more than double that investment in 2001."

Verizon Wireless' local network has experienced significant growth in call volume over the last several months. The enhanced network is designed to meet the current needs of local wireless users and enable increased use. This upgrade, along with others planned throughout the state, is part of Verizon Wireless' planned $4 billion investment in 2001 to enhance its nationwide wireless network.
