Verizon Wireless Continues Aggressive Network Expansion with 22 New Cell Sites in Central Illinois

PEORIA, IL — Over the past two months, 22 new cell sites have been added in Central Illinois as part of Verizon Wireless' $4 billion investment in network improvements nationwide, $22.5 million of which is dedicated to their network in Central Illinois.

The sites span the state's central area, from the Indiana to the Iowa/Missouri borders. Much of the network enhancement involved the conversion from analog to CDMA and greater coverage and capacity in such key locations as those in and surrounding Springfield, Champaign-Urbana and the heavily traveled I-88 corridor between DeKalb and Davenport, IA.
The $22.5 million investment is designed primarily to enhance Verizon Wireless' digital wireless network to support the delivery of the most advanced wireless voice and data services to its customers. Verizon Wireless is expanding coverage and increasing capacity in its switching centers and cell sites to handle the strong demand for its wireless services.
Customer growth, greater usage due to high-value pricing like SingleRateSM national and regional plans, and the popularity of Mobile Web wireless Internet services are driving the local demand for Verizon Wireless' services.
