IRVINE, CA — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, today announced it will donate at least $25,000 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to help combat neuromuscular diseases. The donation is linked to a cooperative program including Verizon Wireless and Ralphs/Food 4 Less that begins this week.

Southern California residents can pick up a Verizon Wireless coupon at Ralphs and Food 4 Less grocery stores between August 29 and September 3. The coupon offers two benefits. Every customer that presents the coupon at any Southern California Verizon Wireless Communications Store will receive a free universal hands-free headset for each coupon redeemed. (Retail value $19.99). In addition, for every customer that signs up for any calling plan priced at $35 per month or more the company will donate $15 to the MDA (Verizon Wireless has committed to a donation of at least $25,000).

"We are pleased to be part of this program since it provides us with an opportunity to partner with a premier California business to support a designated charity and responsible driving," said Clay Berryhill, acting Southern California regional president. "The quality of the MDA and its work speaks volumes, which is why we are proud to donate at least $25,000 - and we are hoping Southern Californians will help raise that bar. In addition, we are pleased to pair our donation for each coupon redeemed with a free universal headset."

The funds donated by Verizon Wireless will support the MDA's worldwide effort to combat neuromuscular diseases through research, clinics, summer camp programs, the purchase of wheel chairs and braces, and professional and public health education. The coupons are redeemable only at Verizon Wireless Retail store locations in Southern California, and are not available through authorized retailers, agents, resellers or Verizon Phone Marts.
