ATLANTA, GA — The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have "Joined In" with Verizon Wireless, the new official wireless provider for Georgia Tech Athletics, announced Jim McGean, president-Georgia Region for Verizon Wireless. The three-year sponsorship includes the university's football and basketball programs. The company's first event as the new sponsor was freshman "Traditions Night" on Thursday, August 23 at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

As a sponsor, Verizon Wireless will be on site at the 2001-2003 season home football games with end-zone signage and home game promotions. In addition, the company will host the "Player of the Week" segment during the coaches' television program on WAGA-TV FOX 5, TV33 and FOX Sports South; and will sponsor the radio broadcast of the games on Sports Talk 790 The Zone, South 107.1 and Lake 102.3. When basketball season begins, Verizon Wireless will have a similar presence at home games in Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

"As the nation's largest wireless provider and the wireless provider with the biggest home footprint in Georgia, we feel a responsibility to support the communities in which we serve," said McGean. "Joining with an athletic program of Georgia Tech's caliber was the perfect fit for us."
