MAPLE SHADE, NJ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless communications provider, has completed the installation of a new 9,000 sq. ft. digital switching office at its Maple Shade facility. This new office doubles the size of the existing switching center, enabling Verizon Wireless to handle the ever-growing number of wireless calls in the area. The company now operates multiple digital switching centers in the Philadelphia Tri-State region.

The newly expanded facility is part of a $4 billion investment program this year to improve and extend the reach of the Verizon Wireless nationwide network. More than $100 million of that investment is being used to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in the region.

"This new digital switching center demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with reliable, high quality service through network expansion and enhancements," said Ann McCrystal, president of Verizon Wireless' Philadelphia Tri-State Region. "By staying ahead of the wireless growth curve we'll continue to have the capacity to provide exceptional wireless voice and data services to our customers."

The expanded facility, together with the original switch placed into service in 1990, serves wireless customers who live and travel through Southern New Jersey, including Mercer, Burlington, Cape May, Ocean, Atlantic, Cumberland, Salem and Camden Counties.

Customer growth, greater usage due to high value pricing like the company's SingleRateSM national and regional calling plans, and the popularity of its Mobile Web wireless Internet services are driving the local demand for the company's wireless services.

The company's CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) digital technology provides excellent voice quality and enables the company to serve more customers and handle more simultaneous calls. Verizon Wireless has the largest digital customer base in the U.S.
