SAN DIEGO, CA — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, has activated a new digital cell site located within the San Diego Convention Center. The new installation was designed to coincide with the 2001 Wireless I.T. and Internet Show, presented Sept. 10 - 13 by the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA).

The new Verizon Wireless system doubles the wireless service capacity and is located inside the new section of the convention center. As a result, conference goers utilizing Verizon Wireless service will enjoy enhanced call coverage. This will be good news for the conference attendees and 350 exhibitors expected to attend the national convention.

"We are anticipating very high call volumes as exhibitors showcase wireless data products using Verizon Wireless' network, and as people confer with colleagues or call friends back home," said Acting Regional President Clay Berryhill. "Our employees worked diligently to evaluate the needs of the convention, install an in-building network to cover the newly expanded area of the San Diego Convention Center, and integrate the new site into the building's structure. The enormous effort we have invested to significantly boost the wireless service capacity in time for the CTIA Wireless I.T. show reflects our ongoing commitment to providing quality service to our customers."
