ROCHESTER, NY — Verizon Wireless, the Buffalo Bills, the Erie County Sheriff's Office and Motorola will collect used wireless phones to benefit victims of domestic violence at this Sunday's Bills game vs. the Indianapolis Colts. These phones will be refurbished for donation to domestic violence victims, and/or recycled and sold with proceeds donated to non-profit domestic violence organizations. Wireless phones can give victims of domestic violence a lifeline to help in the event of an emergency or threatening situation.

Fans are urged to bring their no longer used wireless phones to the game and deposit them in collection bins at any of the 10 gates as they enter Ralph Wilson Stadium. The first 1,000 fans to donate a phone will receive a poster of Bills linebacker and Verizon Wireless HopeLine spokesperson Sam Cowart. Kickoff is 1 p.m. Gates will open at 11:30 a.m.

"By doing something as simple as donating a wireless phone you no longer use, you can truly make a difference for victims of domestic violence," said John Palmer, president of Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York Region. "Our main community relations focus is to prevent domestic violence, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to collect unused phones for this important purpose."

"If our involvement in this program saves even one life, the value of our partnership will be immeasurable," said Bills linebacker Sam Cowart. "We know we can count on our fans to bring the phones they no longer use to the game to support this cause."

"A program like this helps those who need it most," said Erie County Sheriff Patrick Gallivan, "A donated phone cell phone used for this purpose can act as a lifeline for domestic violence victims in our county."
