WOBURN, MA — As part of its year-round commitment to promote domestic violence awareness and prevention, Verizon Wireless has donated $1,500 to the Asian Task Force. Based in Boston, the Asian Task Force operates New England's first and only domestic violence shelter for battered Asian women and their children. The organization also provides a multi-lingual hotline, advocacy, support and stabilization for more than 200 families every year.

A corporate champion in the fight against domestic violence, Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless carrier, supports both national and local domestic violence organizations. Last month, as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the company made significant contributions to organizations throughout New England, including:

  • A donation of $7,000 to the Vermont Network Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence
  • Wireless phones and service to law enforcement and community organizations
  • Verizon Wireless' Human Resources team also hosted two "Invest in Yourself" seminars in Connecticut to provide on-site career-related assistance to domestic violence victims.

"Verizon Wireless is committed to supporting organizations that help those affected by domestic violence, a problem which spans all communities and cultures. We are proud to support the targeted efforts of the Asian Task Force," said Bob Stott, President for Verizon Wireless' New England Region.

The donation to the Asian Task Force is a contribution to the organization's annual Silk Road Gala fundraiser. The event, now in its seventh year, will be held at the Boston Marriott Copley Place on Saturday, November 10. A reception and silent auction will begin at 5:00 p.m. and a dinner featuring Asian cuisine and entertainment will follow.
