SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Employees from Verizon Wireless' call center in West Valley City recently volunteered their time to pick up trash along a two-mile stretch of Interstate 15 as part of the Utah Department of Transportation's "Adopt-a-Highway" program. Nearly 100 employees worked for a total of eight hours, over three days to help keep Utah's highways free of debris and other possible road hazards. The trash they collected filled more than 55 bags.

"Collecting trash and other obstacles from our roadways contributes to a safer driving environment," said Scott Tweedy, director of customer service. "I'm proud that so many employees from our new call center chose to help their fellow drivers. Their efforts compliment the company's commitment to responsible driving," he said.

Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, has taken an industry leading position in supporting responsible driving through consumer education, affordable hands-free accessories and in some instances, support for state legislation. Most recently, the company extended its education outreach to new drivers, sponsoring the development of an instructional video and companion teacher's guide. The program, entitled vIQSM, or "vehicle Intelligence Quest", is complimentary to libraries, educators, schools and driver's education instructors throughout the United States at www.verizonwireless.com/responsibledriving.
