BOSTON, MA — The results are in and the first Verizon Wireless 'Kids In Need Holiday Drive' was a huge success. Verizon Wireless asked their employees, customers and the public to donate new, unwrapped toys, games, and books at each of its 50 Communications Stores throughout New England. The items were collected for children living at local domestic violence shelters. Each Communications Store adopted a local domestic violence shelter in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, to which it donated all collected items.

From November 20th through December 16th, Verizon Wireless collected more than 1,000 toys, games, and books. All items collected were donated to domestic violence shelters throughout New England. Verizon Wireless organized this outreach program as a part of the company's commitment to decreasing the effects of domestic violence on families nationwide.

"The generosity of our customers, employees, and the American spirit of giving is very encouraging. Children living in domestic violence shelters don't usually have many reasons to smile. So being able to brighten their day is extremely gratifying for all of us at Verizon Wireless," said Bob Stott, president of the New England Region for Verizon Wireless.

Year to date, Verizon Wireless has donated more than 3,000 wireless phones in addition to airtime, and more than $350,000 in monetary and other contributions to domestic violence shelters and prevention programs across the country.
