BEDMINSTER, NJ — The 2002 Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC 2002) will take place March 17 to 21 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, to coincide with the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association's (CTIA) Wireless 2002 show at the Orlando Convention Center March 18 to 20.
According to Richard Lynch, the WCNC 2002 conference General Chair and Chief Technical Officer for Verizon Wireless, the organization's goal in shifting both the timeframe and venue of the WCNC is to provide participants of the CTIA's show who have a technical background with further opportunity to discuss the latest in wireless technology.
Delivering the keynote at the WCNC 2002 Opening Plenary session will be Edmond Thomas, the Federal Communications Commission's new Chief of the Office of Engineering and Technology.
The WCNC is a leading international technical conference for engineers and researchers at the forefront of development and deployment of digital cellular, PCS and the full array of supporting technologies. This five-day conference will include tutorials, applications sessions and technical sessions. The conference will focus on "physical layer" such as data compression, coding and modulation and "network layer" which includes routing, random access, multiple access and quality of service.
The CTIA's annual Wireless show is the largest and most comprehensive wireless convention and exposition in the world, with approximately 30,000 attendees each year. The theme for the 2002 show is "Live. Work. Play. Wireless Lifestyles. This Changes Everything."
"Combining both the WCNC and the CTIA's Wireless 2002 provides a unique opportunity to bring together top researchers and the leaders of the wireless industry," said Lynch. "Sharing technical development and marketing information will benefit the industry -- and ultimately the consumer."
"We feel the WCNC conference is a great complement to our Wireless 2002 event, which will again be the definitive global event for the wireless, mobile computing and Internet industries," said Tom Wheeler, Chairman of the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association. "Together, these two conferences will help participants shape the future of wireless communications - whether it be from a management or technical perspective."
