BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless has selected Motorola as a software provider for a new, carrier-grade short messaging service (SMS) gateway, to support Verizon Wireless' Mobile MessengerSM service. Mobile Messenger now offers customers the ability to send and receive short text messages directly to and from customers of most wireless carriers.

"The SMS gateway will provide advanced messaging solutions serving both enterprise customers and consumer applications alike," said Jim Straight, vice president of Wireless Data & Internet Services for Verizon Wireless. "As the nation's largest wireless carrier, Verizon Wireless will provide new interactive messaging services to its customers, and the SMS Gateway will serve as a launch pad for new, exciting messaging products."
