BEDMINSTER, NJ — With millions of Americans planning to hit the road this summer, there are bound to be flat tires, empty gas tanks and families who are locked out of their cars. Planning and preparation is critical to enjoying summer travel and maximizing vacation fun. Verizon Wireless offers several affordable solutions to help its customers out of sticky situations.

"Wireless Safety Week, which is May 20th through the 25th this year, serves as a reminder for vacationers to drive responsibly and call with care, and that wireless technology can also play a role in personal safety," said John Comisky, Verizon Wireless staff vice-president - marketing. "A wireless phone can be a lifeline to emergency services during an incident or time of need."

Roadside Assistance, a monthly service from Verizon Wireless, gives its customers a link to useful automotive services, such as a battery boost, tire service, fuel delivery, towing, lockout service, and vehicle extrication, 24 hours a day for just $2.95 per month, following a free two-month trial. And because Roadside Assistance membership is assigned to the wireless phone number, parents can give their wireless phone to their teen and know they have protection if they need it. Family SharePlan customers who sign up for Roadside Assistance can protect the entire family by adding service to secondary lines for only $1.50 per month.

Another safety and security solution Verizon Wireless customers may consider is insurance. While most recognize the importance of health and auto insurance, few are aware of the benefits of wireless phone insurance. Insurance industry estimates indicate that more than ten million wireless phones will be lost, stolen or damaged this year.

Verizon Wireless customers can get peace of mind knowing their wireless investments are protected - even if they've been damaged, lost or stolen - with Verizon Wireless Phone Protection. Customers can expect to pay between $2.95 - $4.95 per month to cover handset replacement. A one-time deductible, based on the cost of the phone, is paid when the claim is filed.

Wireless Safety Week (May 20-25, 2002) serves as a reminder for vacationers to drive responsibly and call with care, and that wireless technology can also play a role in personal safety. A wireless phone can be a lifeline to emergency services during an accident or time of need.
