ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — Members of the Chelsea Neighborhood Association, a town watch group that patrols Chelsea, Lower Chelsea and Chelsea Heights, now have a new crime-fighting tool thanks to a wireless phone donation by Verizon Wireless' Northfield Communications Store.

The donation of two digital wireless phones, which was made through the company's HopeLineSM program, will enable town watch group members to communicate with each other while patrolling the streets and alert police officers of suspicious criminal activity. For added convenience, phones were pre-programmed to dial 9-1-1 and the local police department.

According to Michael Doyle, Ambassador for the Atlantic City Department of Public Safety and co-founder of the Chelsea neighborhood watch group, "In the event of an emergency, we can now contact police at the push of a button. The phones will keep our lines of communication open and will help us keep our neighborhood safer."

"As part of our community outreach efforts, we're proud to partner with the Chelsea Neighborhood Association and hope that our wireless phone donation will make it easier for town watch members to fight crime in their neighborhood," said Tim North, manager of Verizon Wireless' Northfield Communications Store.

Through Verizon Wireless' HopeLine program, wireless phone users can help support community phone donations by recycling their no-longer-used phones at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store. Collected phones are refurbished, recycled or sold and either phones or cash are donated to local charitable organizations such as domestic violence shelters and public safety groups.
