MILWAUKEE, WI — "Can you hear me now? Good!"

Wisconsin residents will have the opportunity to echo the question and affirmation made famous by the Verizon Wireless Test Man, as the nation's largest wireless communications provider conducts Test Man look-alike contests at seven malls throughout the state during October and November.

Each contest will feature winners in three different age categories: Toddler Test Man, ages two-five; Tween/Teen Test Man, ages 8-16; and Adult Test Man, 17 and older. Both males and females can enter the Test Man contests.

"The Test Man has achieved national notoriety embodying our Verizon Wireless employees who are relentless, obsessive and committed to making sure our network is the best it can be for our customers," said Tracy Nolan, president, Wisconsin/Illinois Region, Verizon Wireless. "The contests Verizon Wireless is sponsoring provide a forum for Test Man Wannabes to do their best job of testing our network, receive some acclaim and have some fun."

Contestants will be judged on the following: overall appearance and actions; crowd reaction; and, in the tween/teen and adult categories, how well they repeat the "Can you hear me now? Good!" statement popularized by the Test Man in Verizon Wireless' national advertising campaign. They will choose one of five backdrops, such as a highway, desert, cornfield, etc., to deliver their line in a simulated commercial filming setting. All contestants will receive a photograph of their "on set" appearance, and a Test Man T-shirt.

Two Verizon Wireless employees and a local celebrity will judge each contest.

Prizes for each of the winning categories include a Verizon Wireless phone, valued at up to $200, and one year of wireless communications service at $40 per month. In addition, the winning "Test Men" will also receive a $75 gift certificate from the participating mall. Each winning prize package is valued at $750.

The first Test Man Look-alike contest is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2002, at the Regency Mall in Racine, WI. Other contests are scheduled for the following:

  • Saturday, October 12 at the West Towne Mall, Madison, WI;
  • Saturday, October 19, Bay Park Square, Green Bay, WI;
  • Saturday, October 26, Brookfield Square, Brookfield, WI;
  • Saturday, November 2, Fox River Mall, Appleton, WI;
  • Saturday, November 9. Janesville Mall, Janesville, WI; and

All contests will be held from Noon to 2 p.m. For additional information on contest rules and regulations, please contact the participating mall's customer service center.
