Verizon Wireless Launches Wireless Phone Recycling Drive in Delaware

WILMINGTON, DE — Verizon Wireless is holding a statewide wireless phone recycling drive through November 30 to benefit victims of domestic violence and help dispose of no longer used wireless phones in an environmentally-safe way.

Delaware residents are encouraged to donate wireless phones to any Verizon Wireless Communications Store in Delaware and the YWCA of New Castle County's King Street location. Here is the list of participating Verizon Wireless store locations:

• 4407 Concord Pike, Concord Square Shopping Center, Wilmington
• 4345 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington
• 1045 N. DuPont Highway, Dover
• and the Christiana Mall in Newark

Verizon Wireless will contribute $5 - up to a maximum of $2,500 - to the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence (DCADV) - for each working wireless phone donated. Collected phones will be refurbished or sold through the company's national HopeLine Program, and either phones or cash will be donated to non-profit domestic violence agencies. All wireless phone models from any carrier will be accepted.

Verizon Wireless also donated 200 wireless phones and airtime to the DCADV. The phones were programmed to dial emergency numbers, including 9-1-1.

"By doing something as simple as donating a wireless phone you no longer use, you can truly make a difference for a victim of domestic violence," said Christine Baron, president of Verizon Wireless' Philadelphia Tri-State Region. "Our main community relations focus is to prevent domestic violence, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to use wireless technology for this important purpose."

Domestic violence prevention and education is the focus of Verizon Wireless' HopeLine program, through which the company provides free voice mailboxes and emergency phones to victims residing in shelters and to law enforcement agencies to distribute to women at risk. As a result of HopeLine and related phone recycling programs, the company has collected more than 790,000 used wireless phones for the benefit of domestic violence victims and advocacy groups.
