HOUSTON, TX — The next Picasso might just be a third-grade student at Houston Independent School District's T.H. Rogers Elementary School, located in the Galleria area. Thanks to Verizon Wireless and the Houston Texans, a talented young artist and her family attended a Texans game at Reliant Stadium, gracing the sidelines with the players and other members of the team.
Nine-year-old Jacqueline Andor submitted her artistic version of Houston Texans spirit in Verizon Wireless' "Show Us Your Horns" art contest, conducted at the company's premiere Uptown retail location at 1670 Post Oak Boulevard. Artwork from 27 students was on display at the store for open public voting. Andor's artwork was the grand-prize winner with the most votes.
"I am really happy I won, the game was really great," said Andor. "Thank you to Verizon Wireless and the Houston Texans."
Andor attended the Texans game with her mom, Elizabeth, her dad, Carl, and her younger brother, James.
"The art contest was a fabulous treat for our kids," said Kathy Shapley, art teacher at T.H. Rogers. "This type of competition is so exciting for the children because it gives them a fun way to celebrate their local football team while showing off their creativity. When I told them about the contest, they grabbed the art supplies and ran to their tables to get started!"
"We've had a lot of fun with this project," said Ric Ostroff, retail manager for Verizon Wireless. "The masterpieces created by the children inspire the students, their classmates and those who see the art in our store. As a new neighbor in the Uptown-area, we are happy to be able to give back to the children in the community."
