PHOENIX, AZ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless provider, invested more than $140 million in 2002 to expand and enhance its wireless network in Arizona, and deploy new services such as its Express NetworkSM and Get It NowSM mobile data services. The Arizona investment was part of Verizon Wireless' aggressive network enhancement program, which has averaged $4 billion a year for the last two years.

Verizon Wireless' investment has expanded the company's coverage in the state by more than 85 percent and increased capacity to handle even more simultaneous voice and data calls, in keeping with the company's focus on network quality. Network usage in Arizona increased nearly 70 percent in 2002 over 2001.

"Our television Test Man, with his signature 'Can you hear me now? Good.' comment, communicates our commitment to providing customers with the nation's largest and most advanced wireless network," said Wanda Oppenheim, executive director of Network, Verizon Wireless. "An expansive, high-capacity voice and data network like ours is essential for reliable service."

Verizon Wireless also introduced a number of new wireless data products and services in 2002, including the high-speed Express Network. Available in 900 cities coast-to-coast, customers in Arizona are now able to send and receive information wirelessly, at speeds comparable to dial-up Internet connections using the Express Network. Additionally, Verizon Wireless introduced Get It Now, a data service that enables customers to easily download games, ring tones, entertainment and productivity applications over the air onto their phone, including phones with color screens.
