BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, announced today its Get It NowSM customers are feeding an insatiable appetite for downloadable applications, thanks to new and sticky applications on its popular Get It Now service. As of 12 Noon on Sunday, June 8 — just eight short months since the Get It Now national launch — customers will have downloaded 11,762,894 Get It Now games, ring tone packages, entertainment applications and more (a single download may consist of a bundle of up to 10 ring tones; each month, ring tone packages are one of the most popular downloads).

The rate of downloads, has skyrocketed to 2.3 million downloads in May 2003, up from just under 1 million a month in the first few months of service that began in September 2002. On average, nearly 75,000 applications were downloaded each day in the month of May alone.

"Get It Now's rapid rate of adoption reflects our customers' zeal to use their wireless devices for more than voice," said John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. "While many people spend their free time playing games and having fun with their phones, an increasing number of our customers rely on Get It Now downloads to be efficient — they can read e-mail on the fly or use their downtime to file an expense report."

Games and ring tones are the most popular applications. With a stream of new and enticing applications added each Wednesday, customers choose from puzzle and strategy games to action and sports games to the classics based on popular board and television games. From the thousands of ring tone selections available, there is something for everyone with choices ranging from pop, Hip Hop, country, classical and holiday-appropriate themes.

In addition to a service providing hours of entertainment, some customers rely on Get It Now to help them manage their hectic schedules. They can get real-time flight information, stock quotes, weather updates, track expenses, and even to sync with their Microsoft® Outlook® or PalmTM for contact information.
