YONKERS, NY — Just in time for the holidays, Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, has opened a new store in the Cross County Mall. The company also owns and operates four other Westchester County retail stores in The Westchester and at 455 Central Avenue in White Plains, the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown Heights, and the Route 6 Shopping Plaza in Mohegan Lake.
The new Cross County Mall store is located between Wet Seal and Old Navy. Store hours are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Extended hours for the holidays began last week.
The company continues to expand its retail presence to meet the growing demand for its wireless products and services. During the third quarter, Verizon Wireless added a record 1.4 million customers nationwide, more than any other wireless carrier. In addition, now that customers are able to switch carriers and keep their wireless numbers, the company expects demand to continue.
"The artificial barrier, forcing customers to stay with one carrier, will be gone and they'll be free to choose the best network," said store manager Kelly Dore.
Verizon Wireless has invested nearly $1 billion during the past three years in the New York Metro area to double capacity to handle calls and to make available wireless data services such as picture messaging, text messaging, high speed Internet connections through NationalAccess, formerly called Express Network, and Get It NowSM service which offers downloadable ring tones and games.
The Cross County Mall Communications Store is one of 67 retail locations Verizon Wireless owns and operates in the New York Metro area.
