DETROIT, MI — Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless service provider, today announced the activation of five new cell sites in Michigan, improving coverage and capacity in some of the state's busiest, most congested areas.

A new cell site located in downtown Detroit arrives just in time for the 2004 North American International Auto Show at Cobo Center, which last year hosted more than 800,000 visitors. It also improves wireless service for the increasing demand among the 10,000 motorists who travel daily through the Detroit/Windsor Tunnel and enhances wireless service along Detroit's Riverfront area.
The four remaining cell sites improve service at these locations:

  • Troy — enhanced capacity and coverage for Troy's business district, Flagstar Bank's headquarters and Davenport College
  • Livonia — improved service for area residents and Hines Park visitors
  • Rochester — improved coverage in downtown Rochester
  • Bridgeport — increased coverage along Interstate 75 from Birch Run to Saginaw

"Verizon Wireless is committed to providing our customers with the best network," said Greg Haller, president — Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. "We understand our customers expect that when they press 'send' on their wireless phones, their calls will go through, sound clear and stay connected for the duration of their conversation. That's why, across the state in 2003, we spent $125 million on our network. In 2004, our network remains our top priority."

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $12 billion over the past three years in its national network, offering customers access to the most extensive and reliable wireless voice and data network in the United States.
