MIAMI, FL — South Florida residents and visitors who carry camera phones can show off their artistic eyes and/or quick fingers by contributing photos for display at the Verizon Wireless "Art of Technology" Pavilion at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival.

Contributors of the three "best of show" shots from their camera phones will be awarded the new LG-6000 high-resolution camera phone, provided by Verizon Wireless. An expert panel, including Winston Townsend — photo editor of The Miami Herald, Denis Bancroft — team photographer for the World Champion Florida Marlins, and long-time South Florida photographer Alex Gort will judge the photos on a number of characteristics, including those that are making camera phones so popular.

"We hope to display how this technology lets Floridians best capture the fun or beauty of certain moments anywhere anytime," said Mike Lanman, Florida region president of Verizon Wireless. "Submissions can show off our Florida lifestyle and environment, a funny scene, or any spontaneous, interesting moment that you can save or share with others."

A gallery of numerous submitted photos will be exhibited at the Verizon Wireless "Art of Technology" Pavilion at the art show February 14-16.

To submit photos (a maximum of three per entrant), send them directly from your camera phone — from any wireless carrier -- along with a caption, your name, address and email to 8134047689@vzwpix.com.  Entries must be received no later than February 6, and winners will be announced at the show. For questions or more details, send a text message to 8134047689@vzwpix.com.

Camera phones have surged in popularity among Floridians during the past year, thanks to higher resolution lenses, faster "send" times and simpler processes for sharing photos. Picture Messaging, launched by Verizon Wireless in 2003, requires just a few easy clicks to take and send a photo. In less than three months after the launch of the Verizon Wireless picture messaging service, customers shared more than 2 million picture messages over the company's nationwide all-digital network.
