BEDMINSTER, NJ — A little college basketball and TXT messaging knowledge could go a long way with Verizon Wireless' Messaging Mania TXT2WIN Sweepstakes. Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's largest and most reliable wireless network, is giving its customers a chance to put their love of college basketball to the test. The answers to a series of college basketball trivia questions can win one of several prizes, a 42-inch plasma television or an LG VX6000 full-featured camera phone with a Verizon Wireless gift card.

The first annual Messaging Mania TXT2WIN Sweepstakes runs from March 1-31, 2004. To enter, Verizon Wireless customers can send a TXT message with the words "WIN" to short code 62642 (MANIA). Once registered, participants will receive polls/quizzes and updates. Every Friday, contenders will receive a college hoops-related trivia question and will have 12 hours to respond. Multiple responses can be received during the 12-hour timeframe; each response will count as one entry in the Sweepstakes. Verizon Wireless customers will be charged according to their calling plans and TXT message rates apply. All entries must be received by 11:59 PM EST on March 31, 2004. There is no purchase necessary to enter or win and all entrants must be at least 18 years old to enter. Official game rules are also posted on the Web site.

Verizon Wireless customers can also enter for free without sending a TXT message by mailing a postcard with their answer along with their name, address, daytime area code and phone number, email address and Verizon Wireless Mobile Telephone Number (MTN) to:

    Verizon Wireless-Messaging Mania
    C/o UPOC Promotions Department
    65 Broadway
    Suite 602
    New York, NY 10006

All entries must be postmarked by March 31, 2004 and must be received by April 7, 2004.

The first place winner, chosen from all entries, will win a Samsung 42-inch plasma television. Ten, second place winners will win an LG VX6000 camera phone with a Verizon Wireless $25 gift card. Each response counts as an entry to win all prizes.

Verizon Wireless customers can pay as they go for TXT Messaging $0.02 for each message received and $0.10 for each message sent, or select from bundled plans for $2.99 per month for 100 messages, $3.99 per month for 200 messages and $7.99 per month for 600 messages sent or received. Verizon Wireless Prepay service customers can also join the excitement - Prepay customers with TXT messaging-capable phones can send and receive messages for just $0.05 each.

From now through May 9, 2004, customers can sign up for a bundled plan of either 500 TXT Messages or 80 Picture Messages for $4.99 monthly access through December 31, 2005. Customers with camera phones who choose both will be billed $7.99 monthly access for 500 TXT Messages and 80 Picture Messages, a $2.00 monthly savings through December 31, 2005.
