TREVOSE, PA — We recycle newspapers, cardboard and plastic, so why not wireless phones? As you prepare for the annual ritual of spring-cleaning and to mark Earth Day on April 22, Verizon Wireless is asking wireless customers to dust off those old cell phones you no longer use and donate them to a worthy cause.

Verizon Wireless Communications Stores throughout southern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware accept donations of no-longer-used wireless phones year-round in support of its national HopeLineSM program, which benefits domestic violence victims.

Through HopeLine, used wireless phones (from any carrier) are refurbished, recycled or sold, and either phones or cash are donated to local domestic violence shelters for use by survivors. Older, unsalvageable phones are disposed of through an EPA-certified salvage company.

"By donating phones to our HopeLine program, people will not only help the environment they will also help domestic violence victims have a lifeline to police should they encounter their abuser, and help them rebuild their lives," said Frank Antonacci, director of Retail Sales for Verizon Wireless' Philadelphia Tri-State Region. "All people have to do is drop off their no longer used wireless phones at any Verizon Wireless Communications store."

As a result of HopeLine and related phone recycling programs Verizon Wireless has organized since 2001, Verizon Wireless has collected more than 1.2 million used wireless phones for the benefit of domestic violence victims and advocacy groups.
