CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — In a continued effort to provide the best wireless service for businesses, residents and visitors of Corpus Christi, Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless provider, has activated five new cell sites in the area. The cell site expansion is part of the company's aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless voice and data services, including two-way text messaging, picture messaging and Internet access. Verizon Wireless invested more than $194 million in its Texas network in 2003.

"The performance of our digital network is the key reason Verizon Wireless is the leading wireless service provider in the nation," said Daniel Hernandez, store manager for Verizon Wireless in Corpus Christi. "With phase two of wireless local number portability taking effect on May 24, consumers in Corpus Christi will be able to keep their mobile number when they change wireless service providers. These five new cell sites will help provide the nation's highest-quality wireless network to customers in Corpus Christi."

As part of its commitment to provide customers with the highest quality of service, Verizon Wireless activated the following cell sites to enhance wireless coverage in Corpus Christi:

  • Located on Alameda Street, a new cell site enhances coverage to the Alameda Shopping Center, Driscoll Children's Hospital, Doctors Regional Hospital, and Ray High school.
  • A new site located in Calallen enhances coverage in the Five Points area in Corpus Christi, which includes Northwest Regional Hospital, Calallen High School, Five Points shopping center, and the River Hills Country Club.
  • A new site on Shoreline Drive enhances coverage on the Corpus Christi campus of Texas A&M University. Located in Weber, a new site significantly enhances coverage along South Padre Island Drive near the intersection of Weber Road. This site also improves coverage around Carroll High School.
  • Enhancing coverage along Ocean Drive and on Corpus Christi Bay waterfront, this new site located on Ocean Drive also provides coverage at Meadowbrook Park and Meadowbrook Shopping Center.
