SAUGUS, MA — For a limited time, anyone who donates a no longer used wireless phone to Verizon Wireless' national HopeLineSM recycling program at the company's Communications Store at 180 Main Street (The Saugus Shopping Plaza) in Saugus, Massachusetts will get something sweet in return: one dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

The offer is part of the celebration of the opening of the newest Krispy Kreme store at 555 Broadway in Saugus. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. is offering a coupon good for one dozen doughnuts at any Massachusetts Krispy Kreme store for anyone donating a wireless phone at the Verizon Wireless Saugus store. Coupons are limited to one per person and are available at the Verizon Wireless store from July 26 — August 6, 2004, while coupon supplies last.

Understanding the impact domestic violence has on the lives of family, friends, and co-workers, Verizon Wireless instituted the HopeLine phone recycling program. Phones collected at the Saugus Communications Store as well as through more than 1,200 Verizon Wireless Communications stores across the country, are refurbished for donation to domestic violence victims, recycled or sold. Proceeds are then used to benefit non-profit domestic violence prevention organizations through the purchase of wireless phones, airtime, and/or monetary contributions. Wireless phones (any brand, any carrier) no longer in use, are accepted.

"By partnering with the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program, we are helping a very worthy cause and encourage everyone to support this effort by donating their no longer used wireless phones," said Jonathan Janikies, vice president of operations for New England Dough, LLC, the Cranston, Rhode Island-based franchisee overseeing Krispy Kreme's expansion into New England.

Verizon Wireless' national HopeLine program focuses on putting wireless products and services to work to curb domestic violence and assist victims in emergency situations. Additionally, the HopeLine program supports non-profit domestic violence prevention groups, and provides an environmentally friendly method for recycling handsets.

"HopeLine was created to assist those most in need," said Bob Stott, president of the New England Region for Verizon Wireless. "We are delighted to partner with Krispy Kreme to collect wireless phones to benefit domestic violence victims. Together we can make a difference."
