ERIE, PA — To stay ahead of its growing customer base and demand for its voice and data services, Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site in east Erie that improves the company's digital network coverage and capacity.

The new cell site increases the strength of the Verizon Wireless network signal and enables more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently. Verizon Wireless customers also will experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ringtones with the company's Get It Now® services.

Network coverage and capacity have been enhanced between Baldwin and Brookside, bringing benefits to residents, area travelers and students attending Gannon University, Mercyhurst College and the Pennsylvania State University—Behrend Campus.

"Over the past year in Pennsylvania, we've seen a 45 percent increase in volume on our network," said Roger Tang, president—Ohio/Pennsylvania Region, Verizon Wireless. "These network enhancements reflect our ongoing commitment to meet the growing needs of our customers and to provide them with the high quality of service they expect from Verizon Wireless."

Activation of this new cell site is part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Pennsylvania and across the country. Already in 2004, Verizon Wireless has spent a quarter of a billion dollars to enhance its network in Pennsylvania. Nationwide, the company invests about $1 billion every 90 days to improve and expand what is already the most reliable wireless network in the United States.
