DULUTH, MN — In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service to skiers over the holiday vacation season, Verizon Wireless has extended its network coverage to include the popular Lutsen Mountains ski resort in northeastern Minnesota. A new cell site on Eagle Mountain will provide the first wireless coverage for the resort's ski slopes and mountain accommodations. Residents and travelers along U.S. Highway 61 near the town of Lutsen along Lake Superior also will also experience new wireless coverage.

"Skiers and snowboarders alike now will enjoy all the benefits and safety of reliable network coverage whether they are hitting the slopes or enjoying the après ski," said Nancy Clark, president—Great Plains Region, Verizon Wireless.

The two-week holiday period is one of the busiest times of the year, according to Tom Rider, co-owner of Lutsen Mountains Ski and Summer Resort, with accommodations 100 percent full.

The new site, accessible only by chairlift, also provides essential communications for the resort's employees. "Our staff now will be able to communicate on their cell phones as they work on the mountain rather than running back and forth to a phone or using expensive radios," said Rider.

The new cell site is part of Verizon Wireless' aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year. Nationally, Verizon Wireless invests about $1 billion every 90 days to improve and expand what is already the most reliable wireless network in the United States.
