Verizon Wireless, Green Bay Packers Raise More Than $10,000 To Help End Domestic Violence

MILWAUKEE, WI — Verizon Wireless announced today it has donated $10,600 to domestic violence organizations throughout the state of Wisconsin, thanks to a team effort with the Green Bay Packers during the 2004—05 NFL football season to raise much-needed funds for survivors of abuse.

Through its program called "Protection is the Name of the Game," Verizon Wireless donates $25 to a designated domestic violence organization for each point scored by the Green Bay Packers during regular season games. This season, the Packers scored 424 points.

Since its inception in 2001, the program and has raised more than $30,000 for domestic violence shelters and organizations in Wisconsin. "Protection is the Name of the Game" is part of Verizon Wireless' ongoing, award-winning HopeLine^SM program, which focuses primarily on preventing domestic violence and increasing community awareness of this national issue.

"We count on the team to score high so we are able to give more to domestic violence organizations that are in need and, in true Packers fashion, they helped us succeed."

With the help of the Green Bay Packers, Verizon Wireless was able to make donations to the following organizations: Task Force on Family Violence (Milwaukee); Sojourner Truth House (Milwaukee); Milwaukee Women's Center, Asha Family Services (Milwaukee); Family Violence Center (Green Bay); Advocates of Ozaukee; Women's Resource Center (Racine); Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (Madison); The Women's Center (Waukesha); Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence; Friends Aware of Violent Relationships (Fond du lac); Women's Horizons (Kenosha); Manitowoc County Domestic Violence Center; YWCA Alternatives to Domestic Violence (Janesville); Domestic Violence Project (Kenosha); and the Outagamie County Domestic Abuse Program.
