BEDMINSTER, NJ — Domestic violence is not just a women's issue and again this year, HopeLine®, Verizon Wireless' corporate domestic violence prevention program, is honoring those men who have taken a public stand to help end violence against women and children. This Father's Day, HopeLine is reaching out to and honoring men with the hope that they realize the difference they can make in stopping abuse before it starts.

Verizon Wireless is one of four national sponsors of the Family Violence Prevention Fund's "Founding Fathers," a program that brings together prominent men from the business, sports, music, legal and other communities to declare themselves "founding fathers" and pledge to do all they can to stop violence against women and children. Charles Hand, New York Metro region president at Verizon Wireless will take part in an event Tuesday, June 14 in New York City, launching this year's campaign in which top athletic coaches across the country are taking a stance against dating violence and sexual assault with the "Coaching Boys into Men Playbook," the first step-by-step guide for coaches to educate players that aggression on the field or court should not translate into violence outside of sports.

"Domestic Violence is an issue that affects people from all walks of life — and not just women, but men and children as well," said Denny Strigl, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless. "HopeLine gives us a chance to take a stand against this important issue and Founding Fathers is honoring the men who have recognized and supported the need to get involved in ending the cycle of violence. We're proud to take part in this event as a continuation of our partnership with the Family Violence Prevention Fund."

The Founding Fathers campaign challenges men not with blame, but with hope and the opportunity to be a part of the solution to end violence. The campaign builds upon the Family Violence Prevention Fund's first campaign focused on men called Coaching Boys into Men, which asks men to be role models to young boys and teach them early and often that violence does not equal strength, and it elevates the Fund's efforts to end violence against women and children by engaging men and funding additional programs to prevent violence.

Through HopeLine, Verizon Wireless partners with the Family Violence Prevention Fund as well as other organizations including professional sports teams and educational institutions because they understand how men can play an important role in the prevention of domestic violence. This Father's Day, HopeLine is reaching out to and honoring men with the hope that they realize the difference they can make in stopping abuse before it starts.

Verizon Wireless created its HopeLine program 10 years ago to put the company's wireless products and services to work to help victims of domestic violence enhance their safety. In addition to a successful phone recycling program, HopeLine includes funding for non-profit domestic violence organizations; free phones, service and voice mailboxes for victims; community and corporate awareness initiatives.
