MADISON, WI — To stay ahead of growing demand for its voice, data and broadband services, Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site in Madison to enhance its digital network coverage and capacity on the east end of the University of Wisconsin campus. The new cell site increases network coverage and capacity along State Street from Capitol Square to Lake Street, as well as from the Kohl Center to the Memorial Union building. Additionally, the new site improves signal penetration into area buildings. With this cell site now activated, Verizon Wireless customers will experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ring tones with the company's Get It Now® services. The new site also enables customers to take advantage of Verizon Wireless' two newest offerings-BroadbandAccess wireless Internet service and V CAST streaming mobile video service.

"Our customer base continues to grow in Madison," said Tracy Nolan, president—Wisconsin/Illinois Region, Verizon Wireless. "This new cell site reflects our ongoing commitment to meet the growing needs of our customers and to provide them with the high quality of service they expect from Verizon Wireless."

Activation of this new cell site is a part of Verizon Wireless' ongoing effort to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Wisconsin and across the country. Since its inception, the company has consistently spent more than $4 billion annually-and more than $5 billion last year-to expand and enhance its network nationwide. In 2004, the company spent more than $38 million on its network in Wisconsin.
