ST LOUIS, MO — In response to the growing demand for the company's voice and data products and services, Verizon Wireless has expanded its presence with a new Communications Store in Kirkwood.

To mark the new store's opening, Verizon Wireless presented a $1,500 check to RAVEN, a local organization that seeks to create peaceful families and communities through three core programs: Batterer Intervention, Community Education and Youth Violence Prevention.

"We are excited to open our company's first Communications Store in the city of Kirkwood," said Mark Crumpton, president-Kansas/Missouri Region, Verizon Wireless. "Kirkwood residents and businesses now will have convenient access to a state-of-the-art store in their own neighborhood. We are confident our customers will be pleased with the quality and level of the products and services offered by Verizon Wireless."

The official grand opening celebration of the new Verizon Wireless Communications Store, located at 1048 S. Kirkwood Road, began at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, with a "wire cutting" ceremony. The ceremony was officiated by Debbie Davis, Verizon Wireless store manager, along with Jim Wright, president of the Kirkwood-Des Peres Area Chamber of Commerce, and Paul Hauser, City of Kirkwood.

Accepting Verizon Wireless' donation to RAVEN at the ceremony was Barb Hiltz, executive director of RAVEN. "Our mission is to increase self-awareness, challenge abuse and control, teach alternative behaviors and promote personal responsibility," Hiltz said. "Donations like this one from Verizon Wireless enable us to continue our community education programs that can help end the cycle of violence."

To celebrate the Kirkwood store opening, Verizon Wireless will offer consumers a $20 discount on equipment or accessory purchases with a new two-year agreement. The store offers an expansive array of wireless products and services, including the latest handsets, accessories and data services such as BroadbandAccess, V CAST, Picture Messaging, TXT messaging and Get It Now® downloadable ring tones and games.

The store also provides a HopeLine® phone collection bin where anyone can donate no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories. Through the company's award-winning HopeLine program, most of the donated handsets and equipment are refurbished and sold, with proceeds going to support domestic violence awareness and prevention programs. Remaining handsets are recycled in an environmentally friendly way.

Managed by Debbie Davis, the Verizon Wireless Communications Store in Kirkwood will be open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sunday, noon-5 p.m.
