SEATTLE, WA — Ordering food from any seat at Safeco Field, winning prizes, getting game updates and helping select music to be played during Seattle Mariners games —all via Verizon Wireless mobile phones-are now possible thanks to the 2005 Seattle Mariners Verizon Wireless Baseball platform.

Wireless Baseball is the result of a unique partnership between the Mariners, Verizon Wireless and Verrus, a global provider of mobile commerce solutions. Wireless Baseball allows fans at Safeco Field to use their wireless phones to get more out of their game experience.

The four elements of the Wireless Baseball platform are:

  • OrderUp: fans can order and pay for food and beverages and have their order delivered to their seats, all by mobile phone.
  • ChangeUp: Verizon Wireless customers can play trivia, get game updates and TXT to win prizes, including a Verizon Wireless phone.
  • Verizon Wireless Jukebox: Verizon Wireless customers can vote for their favorite song to be played during the game.
  • Picture of the Game: fans can share their game photos with all fans at the ballpark via their Verizon Wireless phone to be displayed on the Safeco Field video screen during the game.

"The partnership between the Mariners, Verizon Wireless and Verrus is an exciting combination of sports and technology. The Wireless Baseball platform lets us add new services and features that help fans get more out of their experience at Safeco Field," said Joe Chard, Vice President Corporate Business and Community Relations, Seattle Mariners.

"Wireless Baseball is a showcase for the fun and usefulness of wireless service you can rely on," said Kelley Kurtzman, Verizon Wireless regional president. "We are pleased to partner with the Mariners and Verrus on this innovative, interactive mobile platform that is sure to delight Mariners fans."

Wireless Baseball utilizes IVR (Interactive Voice Response) or SMS (text messaging) technology. OrderUp is available to any wireless phone user. Verizon Wireless Jukebox, ChangeUp and Picture of the Game are available exclusively to Verizon Wireless customers.

OrderUp is available to all seats at Safeco Field. The menu includes traditional ballpark fare such as hot dogs, peanuts and Cracker Jack as well as such offerings as Philly Cheesesteak, nachos, chicken Caesar salad and personal pizzas. Beverages include Pepsi brand soft drinks, white and red wine, Budweiser and Miller beer products and Starbucks coffee. Prices are comparable to concession stands plus a nominal OrderUp delivery fee (minimum $10 order). The cost of the order is automatically charged to the user's credit card through a secure encrypted transaction. Orders must be received by the start of the 6th inning.

OrderUp can be accessed either by sending a text message to 57600, by calling toll free 1-866-283-8399, or by logging on to www.seattlemariners.com/verizonwireless.
