ST. LOUIS, MO — Since its launch in June 2005, Verizon Wireless' high-speed EV-DO (Evolution Data-Optimized) wireless broadband network has blanketed the St. Louis area, bringing the only national wide-area wireless broadband network available in the United States to mobile professionals in St. Louis. In conjunction with launching several new markets from coast to coast today, Verizon Wireless also announced new pricing for BroadbandAccess of $59.99 monthly access for new and existing monthly voice plan customers. Local Midwest residents now can receive this 25 percent savings when they experience the nation's most robust wireless broadband network. For non-voice customers, BroadbandAccess is available for $79.99 monthly access for unlimited use with a one- or two-year customer agreement. The new pricing is available to new and existing customers through December 31, 2005.
Verizon Wireless' wireless broadband network continues to offer a rapidly growing number of businesses in St. Louis the freedom of speed, mobility and productivity with BroadbandAccess. The company's premier service for businesses, BroadbandAccess gives mobile professionals a fast resource to help them be productive and in touch with the office and customers while traveling. While on the road, mobile professionals are able to use their laptops to tap into applications and tasks with typical user download speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second (kbps), allowing customers to download a 1 megabyte email attachment or receive three digital pictures (each 400 x 600 pixels) in less than 20 seconds.
BroadbandAccess runs on Verizon Wireless' EV-DO network, which began commercial operation in October 2003 in San Diego and Washington, D.C. and is now the nation's only national wide-area wireless broadband network. Verizon Wireless' EV-DO network initially made its commercial debut with BroadbandAccess wireless Internet access service for business customers and mobile professionals.
In the greater St. Louis area, Verizon Wireless' EV-DO coverage area includes all of St. Louis City and County, and spreads into neighboring Missouri and Illinois counties. In Missouri, coverage stretches north along Interstate 70 into the Wentzville area of St. Charles County. It extends west along Interstates 64/40 across the Boone Bridge, and southwest along Interstate 44 to Eureka. The coverage extends south along Interstate 55 to Arnold in Jefferson County.
In Illinois, the coverage radius encircles an area just north of Alton in Madison County and eastward through southern Macoupin County. It stretches along I-70, east of Highland in Madison County and along I-64 to the Mascoutah area. Coverage continues south across Belleville and much of St. Clair County, and into the Columbia area of Monroe County.
Because EV-DO technology is backward compatible-a distinct advantage to the company's CDMA technology-customers who travel outside a BroadbandAccess coverage area with an EV-DO device will seamlessly switch to Verizon Wireless' existing NationalAccess service, where available, which runs on the company's 1xRTT network.
Verizon Wireless has invested more than $4 billion annually on the build-out and enhancement of its networks since the company's inception in 2000, and last year alone it invested $5 billion, including build-out of the wireless broadband EV-DO network. In the Kansas/Missouri Region-which includes the metro St. Louis area-Verizon Wireless invested more than $91 million in network enhancements in 2004.

Verizon Wireless offers several PC cards for BroadbandAccess customers, including the featured UTStarcom Personal Communications PC 5740 card that is available for $99.99 with a two-year customer agreement.
