SEATTLE, WA — Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, and the Seattle Mariners are teaming up for the second consecutive year to help curb domestic violence in our community. Fans attending the Mariners and Yankees 7:00 p.m. game on Tuesday, August 30 are invited to donate used wireless phones and accessories to benefit victims of domestic violence through the Verizon Wireless HopeLine® program. HopeLine drop boxes will be located outside the entrances of Safeco Field from 4:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. Phones and accessories can also be dropped off at Guest Services at Sections 128 and 329 and the Bullpen Market during the game, or year-round at any Verizon Wireless Communications store.

Through the HopeLine program, used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any service provider are recycled, or refurbished and sold. Verizon Wireless uses the proceeds to award grants and to donate wireless phones with prepaid airtime to non-profit human services and law enforcement agencies to aid victims of domestic violence.

Last year, Seattle Mariner fans donated more than 1,000 used wireless phones and accessories to the program. "The Mariners have focused on domestic violence issues for over 10years and we are pleased to be able to join with Verizon Wireless, one of our corporate partners, to further these efforts," said Joe Chard, Seattle Mariners Vice President of Corporate Business and Community Relations.

"Verizon Wireless is proud to once again partner with the Mariners to help curb domestic violence," said Kelley Kurtzman, regional president for Verizon Wireless. "We challenge Mariner fans to scour their drawers and closets and donate their old wireless phones and accessories to help us provide a HopeLine to victims of domestic violence, an epidemic that affects one in every three American women during their lifetime."

Verizon Wireless has donated more than $70,000 in HopeLine grants to domestic violence agencies in Washington during the past two years as well as more than 400 HopeLine wireless phones with one year of prepaid airtime to domestic violence agencies throughout the state.
