High quality still photo now available of Cell on Wheels (COW) moved to Camp Williams, Utah, by Verizon Wireless on September 5th. The COW is significantly enhancing coverage and call capacity at the base to meet the demand for service by Hurricane Katrina evacuees, Red Cross staff, public safety officials and social service personnel. The COW enables both voice and data calls over the Verizon Wireless network.

BACKGROUND:
Camp Williams is a National Guard Training Site operated by the Utah Army National Guard and the site of a Hurricane Katrina shelter designated by state authorities to house up to 2,000 Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

Verizon Wireless owns, maintains and deploys a fleet of COWs it can mobilize quickly to provide temporary network facilities and capacity for increased service needs such as occur in a natural disaster. The COW will provide service to the shelter and surrounding area, and is one of many ready to be deployed in the hardest hits areas in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama once state and federal emergency officials give the go-ahead.

NETWORK RELIABILITY:
In addition to the fleet of mobile equipment, Verizon Wireless' nationwide network reliability is supported by industry-leading redundancy and maintenance measures, which have proven particularly valuable during natural disasters and other emergencies. Standard Verizon Wireless network reliability features include battery back-up power at all facilities as well as generators installed at all switching facilities and many cell site locations.
